Virunga education community programs provide unique opportunity for learners and their educators to visit parks and learn a lot about nature and cultural heritage. It will expose the importance of a national park to learners from nearby schools – and mostly from disadvantaged backgrounds. The children learn to identify, name and describe the fauna and flora. They learn about biodiversity and how to sustain it.

The initiative is welcoming volunteers and well wishers to share ideas and make learners aware of the importance of conservation of both fauna and flora. This means in a period of one year a large number of leaners will acquire the most prerequisite knowledge on wildlife around the parks.
During the school holidays many event takes place at Red Rocks to keep the children happy and entertained. There are guided tours to Gihondohondo Eco Park, scheduled video showings, storytelling session by program coordinator and many more.
Monthly there is “Umuganda“National cleaning day which offers opportunities for our local guide to educate children about how to care for protected places and that littering damages the environment, women ,youth and men from the nearby communities and volunteers join hands to make the environment near our villages clean , thus promoting sanitation and health.
