The Virunga Bee Keeping programs main goal is to
aid beekeepers of the Virunga Massif in the establishment of cooperatives, a
business plan that encompasses future survival and growth of the cooperatives,
and an education program that secures the sustainability of the beekeepers and
the importance of environment conservation and to provide guidelines on how
pesticides used to protect farm grown products may not harm the bees.

The program will supply local community with education on modern bee-hives and markets their products both locally and internationally. In order to protect the environment as well as wildlife, Virunga community programs sensitize and mobilize local community to keep bees out of protective areas such as national parks, games reserves, thus combating fire out breaks in these areas.
